A journey is about finding your own path

I am a late bloom foodie and an even later bloomed home chéf. And thou I don't follow religiously the rule of eating local specialties I wouldn't just eat in the first available place where hunger strikes me. I try to turn this necessity of eating into an adventure, a part of traveling equal to sightseeing. Sometimes that means a lot of walking around before finding a place that grabs me.
And I never listen to people's suggestions. (As in if you'd recommend me a restaurant you liked on your holiday, it would discourage me from the place. I don't mean not listening to your co-travelers wishes [I hope so]). To me traveling is all about discovering your own path, leaving your trace, personal discoveries, taming a previously unknown place and giving it your own meaning. I have no respect for Lonely Planet kind of guides and tips (thou I give them myself). Sounds kind of perverse right?
But in mine defense I'm not a total zealot about it. The key is to always stay open-minded, no matter what my opinion might be. And so I surprised myself on this trip to Italy by following our friends advice again and again. The fact that he's also a foodie who's been living in Milan for a few years now and a keen explorer of the area probably helped;) I'm really thankful for all his suggestions. I tried some of the best food in my life of my favorite cuisine, discovered places and dishes I would had never found by myself.
Thanks
Łukasz!!!
